My name is Erin Levy and I am so excited to be your GT teacher at Cedar Creek Elementary. I grew up in College Station, TX but moved here to Austin to attend the University of Texas (Go Longhorns!) and earned my Bachelors of Science in Biology in 2002. My husband and I met while I completed my degree in Austin, and we moved together to Durham, North Carolina for him to attend graduate school (Go Tarheels!) and for me to obtain a second degree in Veterinary Medical Technology. I worked as a Clinical Technician at the North Carolina State University Veterinary School in the Neurology Department. It was a thrilling experience where I got to administer anesthesia during spinal taps, assist in brain surgeries, and even watch a lion get an MRI! My favorite part of the job, however, was teaching the the Veterinary students hands on skills and the owners how to care for their pets after surgery and treatment. After several years caring for my own two daughters, and returning to Austin, I decided it was time to return to my favorite thing, teaching! I began substitute teaching at Cedar Creek Elementary and have worked as a Literacy Tutor at Linder Elementary in AISD. I am currently completing my Masters in Education from Texas State University (Go Bobcats!) and am thrilled to be the new GT teacher at Cedar Creek Elementary.
Gifted Education is a passion of mine that began first as a GT parent advocate and now as a teacher. As a parent, I actively sought out education for my daughters that believed in the whole child approach, and in doing so it had to include programming for gifted education. That is why we brought our children to Eanes ISD. As a teacher, I am deeply committed to project based learning, STEM, and an integrated disciplinary approach to education. I believe in the power of reflection and the development of creative and complex thinking. My goal is to provide my students with deeply interesting topics that allow for student led, in depth studies to create connections between what is being learned and real life.
My husband and I, our two daughters, and our two dogs now live in Austin. Our oldest is a new middle schooler at Hill Country MS (Go Cougars!) and our youngest will be in third grade at Cedar Creek Elementary (Go Eagles!). We love Austin and I just can't get enough of these hot sunny days! When not in the classroom you might find me out for a run around Lady Bird Johnson Lake or walking the dogs in the neighborhood. I also love being creative, all things Harry Potter and pretending I have a green thumb, which I do not!
I look forward to an amazing year!
